CPA can support the continued rehabilitation of the Carriage House at Lynch Park, the only surviving building from the historic estate era. Rehabilitating the property for income-generating use can help bring new revenue to the City.
Carry out priorities of the Open Space and Recreation Plan
CPA can fund some of the priority projects identified in the 2008 plan including:
- Completing the walkway from Greene's Hill around the Bass River
- Waterfront and Bass River walkways
- Watershed protection at Wenham Lake
- Open Space linkage between Boyle and Thissel Streets
- Preserving public access at Norwood Pond
Restoration of Natural Areas
Controlling invasive species and restoring habitat is part of the Open Space category of CPA.
Publications to Promote Historic Areas like Downtown
Beverly's Central Business District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. CPA funds can be used to install signs denoting the district, and to create a guide to downtown. These types of projects promote preservation, and they can be an economic boost to our historic commercial center.
Restoration of the 1812 Powder House
One of only seven powder houses remaining in the state, Beverly's Powder House could benefit from assessment and preservation as well as a program of public information or interpretive signage. The property would be eligible for CPA funding.

Playground Rehabilitation
Beverly can use CPA funding to upgrade public playgrounds, creating accessible play space for more of our city's children.
Central Cemetery Preservation
CPA funds can be used to hire consultants and undertake projects to preserve the historic cemetery landscape, plantings, fencing, buildings, and grave markers. In many communities, CPA funds a Master Plan that lays out a multi-year preservation program for cemeteries.
Community Housing
CPA can help fund housing projects for the city, including preservation of senior housing, and to supplement the millions being invested by not-for-profit organizations like Harborlight Community Partners and Northshore Community Development Coalition. Beverly could also establish programs for first time home buyers and rental assistance programs for qualifying individuals.
Preservation of Archival Documents and Cultural Materials
CPA funds can be used to catalog and preserve collections of historic municipal records, maps, photographs and documents. Cities and towns have also used CPA to conserve and protect artwork and artifacts.
